Entertainment first. Safety always.
I'm a career fire captain on Pender Island, BC, and I make firefighter comedy. The jokes bring people in. The safety message is the punchline.

01Meet the captain
I'm Todd, a career fire captain with Pender Island Fire Rescue, a composite department on a BC island of about 3,500 people. I'm also the department's Public Information Officer and recruiting lead, and I run its social media.
My family ran a retail business for 33 years, and I hold a diploma in Public Relations. So I know how to talk to people, and I know how to tell a story.
I've posted to TikTok every day for more than two years. The comedy gets you to stop scrolling. The safety message is why I hit record.
I posted fire-safety messages. Hardly anyone watched.
I tried a trend with a safety punchline. It worked.
Now 800K+ people follow along, and the comments say, “I went and tested my smoke alarm because of you.”
